With E3 looming close, this latest episode sees a bit of the calm before the proverbial storm. This week first sees Rick, Tim, and Patrick discussing a bit about the announcement that Resident Evil 7 will be releasing on Switch in Japan as a streaming game. Could this be the future for titles developers are unable (or unwilling) to get running on Nintendo's hybrid? And does this future offer the possibility for Switch owners to play the biggest games, or provide a concerning move into digital rentals? Some of us are more optimistic than others, but we're all cautiously intrigued.
For our second segment, the new Donkey Kong DLC on the horizon for Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle got us thinking: what are some other crossovers we'd like to see in the Nintendoverse? Our own Tim Maison recently wrote an article about his very own wish list, a few of which he shares, so Rick and Patrick throw in some picks of their own (Pushmo x BOXBOY=no brainer).
To round the show out, the guys talk about the recently released Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, the latest Wii U port to make its way to the Switch. And why not? The game is a blast, absolutely loaded with content, and with all the DLC from both the Wii U and 3DS versions along with some slight improvements in other areas, is the best iteration available. Sure, it might not be quite as good as Fire Emblem Warriors, but Zelda fans should still give this one a shot if it passed them by the first two times. For all this and more, have a listen!

Saturday May 19, 2018
Saturday May 19, 2018
The NXpress crew is back after taking some much needed time off and this week we got a special review of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, one of the greatest 3D platformers ever made. The fifth Donkey Kong Country sidescroller (the second made by Nintendo's Austin, Texas-based Retro) is now out on the Nintendo Switch and it’s so good, we all decided to buy the game for the second time. But how does it hold up when compared to the original Wii U version? We’ll be sure to let you know, but first, we discuss our disappointment in the underwhelming news surrounding the Nintendo online system as well as some recent E3 rumors circulating the web. All this and more.

NXpress Nintendo Podcast 133: Nintendo Labo Review
Saturday May 19, 2018
Saturday May 19, 2018
Nintendo’s DIY cardboard Labo construction kits for the Switch were released last week, offering multitudes of projects to build and play with. Since the launch last Friday, some of us here at Goomba Stomp (including Tim) have come up with experimental and offbeat uses for the Labo while the rest of us have been busy playing God of War. Of course, we are not here to talk about Kratos since this is Nintendo show, but we do have a long and serious conversation debating on whether or not Nintendo Labo is universal. It should appeal to kids all over the world, but what about everyone else? Joining us this week to help review Nintendo's latest toy-set is Goomba Stomp writer Marty Allen.

NXpress Nintendo Podcast 132: PAX East and the Best Console Peripherals
Friday May 18, 2018
Friday May 18, 2018
Regardless whether your Spring has arrived (screw you, Minnesota), video game convention season is warming up. This week the guys talk with Goomba Stomp writer Matthew Ponthier about his time at PAX East out in Boston. He gives a good rundown of some of the best indie titles at the show, as well as an idea of what it's like to attend the event for the first time — including meeting some childhood inspirations!
In the second segment the NXpress crew prepares for the Labo invasion by remembering some of our favorite Nintendo console peripherals. Think cardboard pianos are weird? Maybe you never heard that Nintendo once made games that used bongo drums as a controller. Or used a friendly robot to sell systems to parents wary of video games after the big industry bust. Strangest of all may be Rick recounting his time spent with Baby and Me's bizarre doll accessory. Ever wanted to simulate rocking a creepy child asleep with the assistance of Wii remote motion control? You're in luck. For all this and more, have a listen!

This week on the NXpress Nintendo Switch Podcast, Zack Rezak steps in to help Tim and Rick review the action-adventure hack 'n' slash masterpiece Bayonetta 2, developed by PlatinumGames. That's right, we are calling it a masterpiece so be prepared to hear the boys gush about the gorgeous visuals, the intricate battles, the epic set pieces, the bombastic soundtrack, the unimaginable weapons, and of course, Bayonetta herself – one of the most powerful and empowered characters to ever grace a video game. Before all that, we discuss our hopes and dreams for E3 2018. Will Nintendo reveal a new installment in the Luigi's Mansion series? Will we see footage of Metroid Prime 4? Will Nintendo unveil a brand new IP? Will Wario get his own game on the Nintendo Switch?
But first, Rick, Tim, and Zack discuss what they've been playing lately. Zack's completed all of Kirby Star Allies yet despite the amount of time he spent playing the game, he isn't the biggest fan. He shares his thoughts on why he feels Kirby Star Allies was a disappointment and why he also feels The Secret of Mana is severely overrated. Tim, on the other hand, has been enjoying Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, and finally found time to finish the main story. He's also been spending more time with Slayaway Camp and other Switch titles. Meanwhile, Ricky somehow turns a Nintendo podcast into a discussion about two games not released on a Nintendo console: A Way Out, the action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios and Far Cary 5, the latest entry in Ubisoft's hit series which is set in the fictional Hope County, Montana, where a preacher named Joseph Seed (portrayed by Greg Bryk) has risen to prominence and formed his very own cult. All this and more!

NXpress Nintendo Podcast 130: Interview With the Director of 'Slayaway Camp'
Tuesday May 01, 2018
Tuesday May 01, 2018
If last week's quick stab at a review of Blue Wizard Digital's Slayaway Camp didn't scare you into picking up the newly-released murder puzzler on your Nintendo Switch, then the only thing we can think of is to make a sequel. Bigger, badder, and with a more in-depth backstory, Skullface returns as we talk with the game's director, Jason Kapalka about the origins of how the sliding block puzzle mechanic was perfect for 80s slasher movie mayhem, inspirations for the hilariously over-the-top deaths, and how adding new wrinkles and gameplay elements keep the killing fresh. Along the way you'll hear about ghostly camp stories, discover just who made those giggle-inducing victim screams, and find out a bit about the developer's next killer project...
Post game content has Rick, Tim, and Patrick gushing a little more, as well as detailing what they've been recently playing. Don't make us go to outer space in desperation — have a listen and check out Slayaway Camp today!
