NXpress Nintendo Podcast 204: ‘Super Mario 3D All-Stars’ and ‘Circuit Dude’
Thursday Sep 24, 2020
Thursday Sep 24, 2020
It seems like it was just yesterday that Nintendo was announcing its compilation of 3D Mario games, and now here we are just two weeks later reviewing the collection on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast. Here are two of the greatest games ever made (and Super Mario Sunshine) in a compilation that’s well worth the price yet somewhat lacking in new features.
Thankfully, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is more than a simple port— and to tell you all about it, we’ve invited Goomba Stomp’s Marc Kaliroff and Cameron Daxon to help us review it.
Also, on tap is a review of Circuit Dude, a new puzzle game on Switch that strikes a balance between being very straightforward and demonically hard.

In this segment, we continued our Super Mario marathon and discussed Super Mario 64, arguably one of the greatest video games to date, and one which all games would be judged henceforth. How does it hold up today? Listen in and find out what we think.
Editor’s Note: Sadly, half of this 50-minute review was accidentally deleted. We plan on revisiting Super Mario 64 again in the near future.

Best of the NXpress Nintendo Podcast: ‘Super Mario Sunshine’ Review
Sunday Sep 20, 2020
Sunday Sep 20, 2020
It was a brave move on the part of Nintendo to launch the GameCube without a Mario game. Instead, Mario’s younger sibling took the spotlight in a new series Luigi’s Mansion. It was six years after Super Mario 64 was released that Nintendo gave us Super Mario Sunshine. In this segment— taken from episode 21 of the NXpress Nintendo Podcast— we take a look back on Mario’s summer getaway and everything that made the beautiful tropical island of Delfino so frustrating and fun.

We've got a packed house for this week's show, but the more is merrier when discussing Goomba Stomp's recently published list ranking the Mario series. How does one assess greatness? It ain't easy, but there are enough strong opinions to go around to dispute some of the results. Rick, Tim, and Patrick are joined by Izsak Barnette and Game Boys co-host Ryan Kapioski to weigh in with our own picks for the best (and worst) Mario games, reignite the debate between Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World, jab at Sunshine a bit, and detail in general the thoughts that go into ranking games like these.
Before that, however, Izsak Barnette tells us about that time he went crazy and didn't play video games for a week. What was he thinking, and what did he learn? It turns out that there's a whole other world of things to do. Who knew? And finally, Ryan gives us the rundown on Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, and whether this Switch exclusive has enough combat and fan service to be worth your dollars. It's another episode full of twists and turns and tangents, so for all this and more, tune in!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Review
I think we can all agree that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is an outstanding game. It never rests on its laurels for a second, and while it began as an expansion pack for Super Mario Galaxy 1, Nintendo did a fabulous job in turning it into an exciting sequel. This week, we continue our Super Mario marathon and find ourselves arguing over which of the two games is better. But first, we discuss our problems with Super Mario Maker and what we hope Nintendo will add, and/or fix. Ending the show is a discussion of Star Fox Zero and why Nintendo delayed the release of the game after making it their number one priority at E3. All this and more.

Wednesday Sep 09, 2015
This week, we continue our Super Mario marathon and finally get around to discussing the third 3D original platformer in the series after Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. The iconic mascot’s long resume features some of the greatest platformers to ever grace any home console and on this episode, we are reviewing Super Mario Galaxy, created by Nintendo’s EAD Tokyo studio, whose first project was DK Jungle Beat, a disappointing flop for Nintendo. We also take some time to discuss the Mega Man movie as well as Runbow, the debut title from Toronto-based developer 13 AM Games.

This week, we take a look back on Mario’s summer getaway, but before we talk about the beautiful tropical island of Delfino and the silver brush-wielding Mario, we have a full report on PAX Prime. Shovel Knight, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Runbow and Oddworld are just some of the many other games we discuss. It’s a crowded house this week as PopOptiq writers Patrick Murphy and Ryan Kapioski join us. And be sure to like our new Facebook page!

Wednesday Jul 22, 2015
Wednesday Jul 22, 2015
The Virtual Boy proved to be a dismal failure for Nintendo but on its 20-year anniversary, we look back and discuss what was good about the console. Afterward, we continue our Super Mario Bros. celebration and review Super Mario World 2 Yoshi’s Island. Since appearing in Super Mario World, Yoshi has received largely positive reception and has become one of the most recognizable characters in Nintendo’s roster. Ending the podcast is a discussion about what makes him so special.
