February 27th was Pokémon Day, and not only was it the perfect time for a certain highly anticipated reveal for Generation 8, but it's also the ideal occasion for the show to welcome back one our much-missed host! Tim makes his triumphant return this week, here to bestow his vastly superior Pokémon knowledge upon the rest of us mere mortals — and not just for the new game trailer for Pokemon Sword & Shield. Detective Pikachu also receives some love, as the new footage is dissected for any possible clues as to whether Trubbish will make an appearance (well, that's what Patrick wants anyway). Joining Tim and Patrick on this adventure is Pokémon skeptic Izsak Barnette, who sits stunned in silence at the sheer brilliance cast by Tim's Pokémon light.
Before all that, the guys of course talk about what they've been playing. Patrick never misses a chance to mention Hollow Knight while discussing his experience with physics-based platformer The Lost Light of Sisu, Izsak goes on an Old Man's Journey, and Tim brags about his Smash Bros. Ultimate skills with the World of Light. Turns out being a brand-new papa hasn't stopped him from getting in a few matches.

It's a full house this week with not one, not two— but three guests joining Rick and Patrick to discuss the best Nintendo Switch games of 2018. It’s the last episode of the NXpress Nintendo Podcast for the year and we discuss fifteen of the best games released on Switch this year including Celeste, Yoku’s Island Express, Iconoclasts, Pokemon Let’s Go, The Messenger, Into the Breach, Wandersong, and Dead Cells. In addition, we set aside some time to review Gris, the indie adventure-platformer developed by Nomada Studio that has been getting rave reviews since its release. Closing the show is a follow-up review of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In between us reviewing all of these games we also discuss Nintendo’s success of the past twelve months and whether or not the Big N had a good year.

This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Alex Aldridge joins us to discuss the problems with E3 and Gamescom and whether or not Nintendo should continue to participate in these tradeshows. In our other main event Patrick and Tim review Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, the first installments of the main Pokémon series for the Nintendo Switch and the first games of the main series to be launched in a home console. Before all that, the gang sets aside some time to discuss Octopath Traveller and Mega Man 11. All this and more.

NXpress Nintendo Podcast #150: 'Detective Pikachu' Trailer and 'Diablo III'
Friday Nov 16, 2018

Cuddly or creepy? Legitimate video game cinema or heartless or cash-grab? Ryan Reynolds or Danny DeVito? It may only provide a brief glimpse at what's to come, but the first trailer for Detective Pikachu has already inspired so many emotions — hope, trepidation, excitement, apathy, and everything in between. This is especially true for the Nxpress' resident Pokémon fanatic, Tim Maison, who is joined by Patrick and guest Zack Rezac to discuss what the hell is going on in this Who Framed Roger Rabbit-like mystery involving real actors and CGI monsters.
And speaking of Hell, Blizzard released a monster of its own on the Switch with Diablo III. Zack gives us the lowdown, letting us know if this journey into the darkness shines as bright as its colleagues on other consoles. Or perhaps it's even better...?
Before all that, however, the guys talk about what they've been playing, and Patrick follows up last week's positive impressions of Starlink: Battle for Atlas with a full review. For all this and more, have a listen!
