As I do every year, I've made another awesome mixtape sampling my favourite songs from the best video game soundtracks of 2018. Included is the fully orchestrated soundtrack by Yasunori Nishiki which was composed to reflect the details, personalities, upbringings, and motivations behind all eight characters – as well as music from Shadow of the Tomb Raider by Montreal composer Brian D’Oliveira, who spent three years travelling through dark corners of the Amazon and remote Mexican villages collecting the rare instruments used to compose the soundtrack. Of course, you will also hear music from John Paesano (Spider-Man), Dan Romer (Far Cry 5) and Bear McCreary, responsible for the emotional score for God Of War which features dark, pounding percussion and a deep, male choir chanting a series of ominous notes. As always, I try to keep the mixtape just under an hour.

This week on the NXpress Nintendo Switch Podcast we discuss the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct which pretty much exceeded our expectations. Joining us is Goomba Stomp staff writer Zack Rezak to help us review WarioWare Gold, the latest entry in the WarioWare series challenging players to complete consecutive "microgames" at increasing paces. Gold features both new microgames and microgames from past entries in the series for a total of over 300 microgames, so there is a lot to talk about! Finally, we end the show with a follow-up on Octopath Traveller. All this and more!

Six years after the sleeper hit Limbo took the video game world by surprise, developer Playdead returned with Inside, their critically acclaimed muted platformer about a boy on the run. Originally released in 2016, the game has finally found its way on the Nintendo Switch, and this week, Goomba Stomp’s Managing Games Editor Mike Worby is here to help us review it. Before we get into a full spoiler review of Inside, a game that Rick calls a masterpiece and the best game on the Switch, Patrick and Tim give their first impressions of Octopath Traveller, the turn-based role-playing video game developed by Square Enix which many critics are calling a perfect ode to old school RPGs of the past. In between those two segments, the gang pitches ideas for Nintendo-themed horror films that they would love to one day direct as short films. It’s another jam-packed show with additional reviews of Bomb Chicken, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, Crash Bandicoot and so much more!
