This week on the NXpress Nintendo Switch podcast, Marty Allen joins Tim and Rick to discuss Journey to the Savage Planet , a first-person action platformer, a Metroidvania-style exploration game, and a very funny satire, all in one colorful, pulsating package. In addition, Marty gives a breakdown of Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, an eclectic collection of games to play and discover on your Nintendo Switch system.
In the main event, the boys discuss forgotten games made by Nintendo which have never once been ported. These include rare and hard to find gems; games that will likely never be reborn due to licensing issues, and of course, games that rely on a certain accessory that is no longer made.
All this and more!

Technical glitches can’t hold us down forever, as this week the NXpress crew is back with their second attempt at wrapping up coverage of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. After putting in an incredible 300+ hours, Ricky D joins Tim and Patrick to talk about what decorative and engineering feats he has accomplished, and where there is left to go for his 5-star island village. Along the way he shares some stories, and passes along a few tips to those looking to maximize their crafting time.
Before that, Patrick gives a brief rundown of Super Mega Baseball 3, which despite its cartoony look and ridiculous title, turns out to be a pretty fun baseball sim that captures a good portion of what makes the sport of baseball so magical. From the strategy of the pitcher-batter duel to a fairly in-depth franchise mode, there’s a lot to love here for fans.
Lastly, the guys react the surprise announcement of Paper Mario: The Origami King. Does this latest sequel look like it will be a return to the traditional RPG that so many have been craving for the series, or will it further divide gamers by embracing the more gimmicky route of the last couple of entries? Either way, there are at least some of us who don’t mind either way. For all this and more, have a listen!

Saturday Jan 11, 2020
Happy new year! With a pretty great 12 months for Nintendo behind us, it’s time to take a look at what’s on the horizon for the Switch in 2020. Patrick and Tim hold down the fort this week, and while the upcoming release schedule is still pretty vague at this early stage, they still find more than a few titles to get excited about. From the latest Animal Crossing and ports like Xenoblade Chronicles to some intriguing indies, there’s plenty to cover on the confirmed front. But of course, there always a bit of reckless speculation to have fun with as well! Will 2020 finally be the year we see Bayonetta 3? What other surprises might Nintendo have in store for fans?
Tim and Patrick go through their personal lists, but also take time to give a little love to those other games that Switch owners might be eagerly awaiting. Before all that, however, Patrick also gives his amateur take on Pokemon Sword and Shield. For all this and more, have a listen!

Awesome Mixtape Vol. 5
It’s that time once again in which I bring to you my awesome mixtape featuring the best tracks from the best video game soundtracks of the year. Last year, my mixtape featured tracks from Triple-A titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and indie darlings like Celeste. In 2017, my picks for best soundtracks included tracks from some of my favorite games including Cuphead, Breath of the Wild and Into the Woods, to name just a few. Well, 2019 has been another banner year for the industry and as always, the games were blessed with an astounding selection of musical scores— some would argue the soundtracks were even better than the actual games at times. As always, it wasn’t easy deciding which songs to include and what to leave out— and as always, I’ve also mixed in some audio clips from various cut scenes while trying to keep it spoiler-free. Feel free to share this link and let me know if you think I’ve missed any great soundtracks in the comments below.

NXpress Nintendo Podcast #183: ‘Luigi’s Mansion 3’ and 'Afterparty'
Thursday Nov 07, 2019
Thursday Nov 07, 2019
The NXpress will be losing one of its hosts for the next month or so, but before Rick uses his vacation time from the show, he gives a full rundown Oxenfree developer Night School Studios’ latest title, Afterparty. Apparently, anyone not scared of a little hellish drinking should have a blast trying to booze their way out of the afterlife by beating demons at beer pong. While it hasn’t released quite yet for the Switch, hopefully more information will be revealed soon.
In the main segment, Tim and Patrick are left all by themselves to deliver a full review of Luigi’s latest spookfest, Luigi’s Mansion 3. Did our Patrick’s first impressions hold up? Absolutely. Without spoiling anything, the guys go over the many reasons they believe that this is the richest, most detailed, most puzzle-packed entry in the ghost-busting franchise. While their are those who may miss the haunted mansion, we’re up for an extended stay at this creepy hotel. Nintendo is entering the stretch run for their 2019 releases, but so far it definitely seems like they’ve saved one of the best for (almost) last.
Finally, the last segment finds Tim and Patrick musing on some of their favorite co-op puzzle games of recent years. It’s not a genre with an overwhelming amount of entries, but there are still some real gems that may have been overlooked. For all this and more, have a listen!

NXpress Nintendo Podcast #172: 'Super Mario Maker 2' and N64/Gamecube Tech
Thursday Jul 11, 2019
Thursday Jul 11, 2019
The calm before the storm is officially over, as the release of Mario Maker 2 kicks off the bounty of Nintendo's solid lineup of 2nd-half games for 2019. in our main segment this week, Tim and Patrick are joined by Goomba Stomp writers Izsak Barnette and Ty Davidson to give our impressions on the new features and refinements, and whether or not this sequel does enough to improve upon an already stellar original. Do we know how to design expert Mario levels? Probably not, but it turns out that there's plenty of creativity and inspiration already out there from the Nintendo community to last a lifetime! From themed levels to a more classic approach, Mario Maker 2 has a little something for anyone who's a fan of the little plumber who could.
After that, Izsak continues his series on the tech behind Nintendo's various consoles. This week it's the N64 and Gamecube, and you may be surprised with some of the interesting engineering decisions made in constructing these two legendary machines. Before all that, however, the guys also briefly offer up some thoughts on the newly announced Switch Lite. Is this dedicated handheld device a great alternative for the casual gamer, or something that might confuse the brand? All this and more on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast.

In a surprising turn of events, the once Xbox One exclusive Cuphead from StudioMDHR has been ported to the Nintendo Switch and the staff here at Goomba Stomp can’t stop playing this wonderful run and gun shooter. This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, we set aside some time to discuss the critical darling that has everyone talking about its gorgeous animation, jazzy soundtrack, and extreme difficulty. In our main event, we each take turns listing what we think Nintendo may or may not announce at E3, and last but not least, closing the show is a review of the RPG card game Steamworld Quest from Image & Form.

This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Goomba Stomp writer Kyle Rentschler joins us to discuss an article he recently published listing his month-by-month predictions of what Nintendo could be releasing throughout 2019. His list is separated into three parts: Main Attraction (announced or rumored big thing that will definitely happen), Backup (announced or rumored smaller things that will definitely happen), and Wild Card (an unannounced thing of varying size that may not but probably still will definitely happen). We go through his list and decide which of these predictions is likely to happen and which are most unlikely. Before all that, Ricky reviews Catastronauts, a sci-fi party game from Inertia Game Studios that drops teams of players in a fight for survival against alien adventures. Meanwhile, Patrick reviews Iconoclasts, a game seven years in the making by developer Joakim Sandberg. All this and more.
