This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, the next generation of hosts, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill pay tribute to Nintendo’s last great handheld and discuss all things arcades with Capcom Arcade Stadium and Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection. But before they dive into Capcom’s latest offerings on Switch, the gang looks back to the past to celebrate ten years of the Nintendo 3DS. The hosts exchange notes about their experience with the Nintendo’s plucky three-dimensional handheld: whether you first encountered the console in its initial run or its later 2D iterations, there is so much to celebrate when it comes to the platform’s robust library and innovative design.
In the main event, Marc breaks down everything there is to know about the free-to-start Capcom Arcade Stadium. With love and care put into its presentation plus a wide array of packs of games to purchase, Capcom’s latest retro effort provides plenty for fans of gaming history to appreciate – even if the collection represents a grand total of three genres. Next up, Cameron and Campbell commiserate in the agonizing brutality of Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection, detailing everything that makes this retro reboot just as uncompromisingly challenging as the arcade classics before it. The game asks challenging questions: what defines “fair” gameplay? How much can suffering be “fun”? Closing things out, the boys shine an indie spotlight on Castle Kong, a Donkey Kong spiritual successor that might just be the best way to get rich quick on Switch.

Ricky D returns to talk Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and the latest Nintendo Direct!
Finally, the one and only Ricky D has returned! This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, the next generation of hosts, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill are joined by NXpress creator and Goomba Stomp Editor-in-Chief, Ricky D in a giga-cat-sized episode all about the latest Nintendo Direct and Super Mario 3D World’s debut on Switch. The gang starts out by discussing every major announcement in the first full-fat Nintendo Direct in a year and a half. Was it worth the 530-day wait? The answer is obviously no, but even if the presentation didn’t live up to every wild expectation, there was still plenty to get excited for. From Skyward Sword’s new and improved release on Switch, Pyra’s debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the splat-tacular reveal of Splatoon 3, and the beautifully-named Project Triangle Strategy, the boys have more than enough to talk about in this mega discussion.
In the second half of the show, the gang dives into the game that started it all: Super Mario 3D World, the platformer that led to the creation of this very podcast. Each one of the hosts shares their unique experience with the game, from Rick’s longtime adoration to Cameron’s early impressions as a new player. Even Campbell’s relative pessimism can’t hold up compared to the game’s relentless charm, and all the hosts exchange notes about what makes the game so special for players of all backgrounds – including the handful of improvements added to the Switch version. Lastly, the gang closes out the show by discussing Bowser’s Fury, the expansive addition to 3D World that offers a uniquely intense, cat-filled take on the original game’s platforming mechanics with an open-ended style.

Here comes a new challenger! This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, the next generation of hosts, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill are joined by none other than The Completionist himself, Jirard Khalil! After a brief discussion of multiplayer games to play with that special someone in celebration of Valentine’s Day, the gang dives right into interviewing Jirard for the main event. Marc leads the way for the discussion, picking Jirard’s brain with insightful questions about everything from creating content on a changing platform and The Completionist’s upcoming tenth anniversary to pulling through a pandemic and the potential for a Completionist-themed indie game.
In this honest interview, Jirard opens up about all the highs and lows that come with managing a long-running YouTube channel. Whether it is addressing the danger of burnout, the anxiety of meeting audience expectations, or navigating the channel toward future success, Jirard holds back no punches as he blasts through some of the long term enigmas all content creators must face. Closing things out, the gang briefly discusses some of the indie titles they are personally looking forward to, including Berserk Boy and Rose City Games’ Floppy Knights.

A week before the release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and the deluge of other big February Nintendo games, the gang bides their time by diving into the wealth of Nintendo news and anniversaries from the past week. They start out by going over Nintendo’s recently released financial results to discuss Nintendo’s bestselling games and fantasize about what the future may hold. Is the long-fabled Switch Pro still a possibility? Will Animal Crossing New Horizons become the Switch’s top seller? The financial results might hold the answer!
February marks the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise, so for the main event, the hosts take some time to reflect on their experiences with the series. Whether you’ve been around since the early days of Red and Blue or a fan raised on the DS generations, there’s no denying that Pokemon has had a massive impact on the gaming world. To wrap things up, Campbell shares his experience with Haven, the latest release from the developers of Furi.
