With the recent announcement of Stadia (Google’s cloud gaming platform) and Apple Arcade (the world’s first game subscription service), the NXpress crew decided it would be best if we discuss how these two services could potentially impact Nintendo’s business strategy moving forward. Google promises that Stadia's cloud computing power is the equivalent of a console running at 10.7 GPU teraflops, twice the size of the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X combined. With the App Store, Apple ignited a worldwide app phenomenon that has revolutionized how we spend our time on mobile devices and now they promise to take it to the next level. Can Apple and Google deliver on their huge promises and if they do, will enough people care and buy into their service? And if so, will the success of their platforms push Nintendo to release their own unique streaming service? There’s a lot to debate but before we get to all the screaming and shouting, Patrick sets aside some time to review the colorful puzzle-platformer She Remembered Caterpillars – while Izsak discusses Astro Bears Party, a four-player party game reminiscent of 3D Snake. All this and more on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast.

Whether it's a sled dog survival game, a balletic gunman with a talking banana, or a rhythm-based Zelda game, there's always plenty to talk about after a Nintendo Indie Direct. This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast Tim and Patrick are joined once again by Goomba Stomp writer Izsak Barnette to pore over the latest weird game announcements for the Switch, and once again we try to convince him that there are definitely some titles worth getting excited about! From The Red Lantern to Cuphead to Rad, and with a little Cadence of Hyrule thrown in for good measure (eh? eh?), we go over some of the highlights, including what we're most looking forward to getting our hands on.
Before that, Patrick gives his review of the popular new puzzle game Baba is You. Is the game is clever? Or are the results mixed? Izsak also recaps his experience with Space War Arena, a real-time strategy game apparently involving mindless drones in space. Later on, Izsak also gives us his opinion on how well a charming Wii hit translates to the 3DS with Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn. And yes, we go off on movie tangents. Again.

This week on the NXpress Nintendo Switch Podcast, Marty Allens joins us to review Ape Out, the beat ’em up game developed by Gabe Cuzzillo that has critics raving thanks to its strong aesthetic style and flair. Expect many comparisons to the work of Saul Bass and a few jazz references thrown into the mix. Meanwhile, in our main event, we set aside some time to reflect on the two year anniversary of the Nintendo Switch and discuss everything we like and dislike about Nintendo’s portable console. All this and more!

February 27th was Pokémon Day, and not only was it the perfect time for a certain highly anticipated reveal for Generation 8, but it's also the ideal occasion for the show to welcome back one our much-missed host! Tim makes his triumphant return this week, here to bestow his vastly superior Pokémon knowledge upon the rest of us mere mortals — and not just for the new game trailer for Pokemon Sword & Shield. Detective Pikachu also receives some love, as the new footage is dissected for any possible clues as to whether Trubbish will make an appearance (well, that's what Patrick wants anyway). Joining Tim and Patrick on this adventure is Pokémon skeptic Izsak Barnette, who sits stunned in silence at the sheer brilliance cast by Tim's Pokémon light.
Before all that, the guys of course talk about what they've been playing. Patrick never misses a chance to mention Hollow Knight while discussing his experience with physics-based platformer The Lost Light of Sisu, Izsak goes on an Old Man's Journey, and Tim brags about his Smash Bros. Ultimate skills with the World of Light. Turns out being a brand-new papa hasn't stopped him from getting in a few matches.
